Boston Celtics

Why Banner 18 is more than possible in 2019

The Boston Celtics are a team that are again under the radar since Golden State signed Demarcus Cousins and LeBron joined the Lakers

It has again become a scenario where it seems that one team is an overwhelming favorite to win the Eastern Conference and there are four teams out West that could win the conference. The Boston Celtics, deservingly so, are the favorite to win the East next season, and are considered by many as one of the top 3 teams in the NBA.

This team is definitely one that shouldn’t be slept on. I know I can’t just tell you that and leave, so of course, here’s the whole break down on why the Celtics could easily be your 2019 NBA Champions.

The team is STACKED

More from Chowder and Champions

The Boston Celtics are loaded with young and proven talent. For one, the guard spot consists of Kyrie Irving, Terry Rozier, Marcus Smart (who’s a restricted free agent), Brad Wanamaker, and Jabari Bird, who’s did well in the Summer League. If you consider Jaylen Brown more of a shooting guard now, he just adds to an already stellar group.

That’s just the beginning of it. If you look at the forwards, they have Gordon Hayward and the versatile Al Horford. The Celtics also have Jayson Tatum, an excellent scorer who plays tough defense. Boston has a few other younger forwards in Guerschon Yabusele and Daniel Theis.

And at Center, Aron Baynes and Robert Williams round out the roster. Baynes gets it done on both sides of the ball. Williams is a young defensive stalwart who will spell trouble for the opposition.

This team has pieces that are young enough to keep the future bright, but are polished enough currently to contribute to a championship.

They match up well with fellow contenders

There are three teams in the West that are contenders. I’ve already mentioned them. The most obvious one is the Warriors. Even though they’ve added Boogie, the Warriors still have had issues with Brad Stevens’s defense and the Celtics’ similar offense. In a 7 game series, it would come down to who can win the chess match.

Brad Stevens is a master at playing chess with the other coach, so I would hypothetically give the Celtics the edge against the Warriors. Next up, the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are a perimeter-oriented team that’s lead by James Harden and Chris Paul. Harden goes cold in the playoffs consistently. Chris Paul is, let’s face it, injury prone. If the Celtics could stay healthy and get things

Discipline and Depth

This is a big one. The Celtics are one of the deepest teams in the league. They’ve got a capable contributor on every spot on the bench. The thing that puts them ahead of the pack, however, is their discipline. This team, barring a few mental lapses, are as patient and careful as possible on both sides of the ball. This franchise embodies the tradition of winning in an efficient and smart way.

The two D’s are what separates the Boston Celtics from the rest of the league. Furthermore, they are my favorites to win the 2019 NBA Finals. The fact that they match well with every other contender just adds to their advantages. Quote me, tweet at me, do what you will, I’m standing strong with this claim.
