NBA trade news: Kawhi Leonard Lakers twist, Anthony Davis to Celtics shock and more | Other | Sport

Kawhi Leonard to Lakers twist

Kawhi Leonard is the odds-on favourite to become the next max contract player to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

That’s according to BetDSI Sportsbook, who have Leonard at +150 to be the next biggest star to join the Lakers.

Leonard was traded by the San Antonio Spurs to the Toronto Raptors last month, but there are still question marks on where his long-term future lies.

He can decide to leave Toronto as a free agent in 2019 and there are several reports linking him with a move to Los Angeles.

The Clippers are reportedly confident they can convince the 27-year-old to join them but the Lakers are said to be his preferred destination.

Magic Johnson has spoken openly about his desire to bring in at least one more max contract player next summer after missing out on Paul George.

Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson are also among those players who could possibly be available.

Anthony Davis to Celtics competition

The Boston Celtics have long been linked with a move for Anthony Davis, but they may be beaten to his signature by the Philadelphia 76ers or Lakers.

That’s according to Metro US, who claim both two teams have an easier route to signing Davis as opposed to Boston.

It is said teams in the NBA have downtooled for the upcoming season as they expect the Golden State Warriors to walk away with the 2019 title.

Philadelphia could reportedly use Markelle Fultz as well as a number of fringe players to tempt the New Orleans Pelicans into making a deal.

Dwyane Wade wants Miami Heat return

Dwyane Wade has said he will not join any team other than the Miami Heat.

The three-time NBA champion is yet to commit for the new season, with rumours linking him with China.

But Wade insists there is only one team he wants to play for.

“Heat only. If I’m playing the game of basketball this year, it’ll be in a Miami uniform,” Wade said.

“If I don’t, I’ll be living in Miami and somewhere else probably.”
