Boston Celtics waive Marcus Georges-Hunt prior to regular-season opener

The Boston Celtics announced they waived guard Marcus Georges-Hunt from the preseason roster on Saturday.

Georges-Hunt, who spent a year with the Celtics’ G-League team in Maine, could still be considered for the team’s roster during the regular season if the Celtics make a cut — most likely Jabari Bird, who is facing assault charges.

Georges-Hunt has a skill set the Celtics traditionally find appealing — a big guard with strength, switchability and play-making off the dribble. Brad Stevens praised Georges-Hunt during the preseason, calling himself a “big fan” of his game.

In one preseason appearance, Georges-Hunt posted seven points, finishing 2-for-3 from the field and 1-for-2 from 3-point range. He also dished out two assists.

Georges-Hunt previously spent time with the Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Celtics open their regular season on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
