Boston Celtics’ Kyrie Irving apologizes for saying ‘(Expletive) Thanksgiving’

After Kyrie Irving expressed strong feelings about the holiday on Wednesday when a reporter wished him a happy Thanksgiving, Irving clarified his intent via two tweets on Thursday morning.

After the game, Irving thanked the reporter who wished him a happy Thanksgiving as he was leaving a scrum before saying he doesn’t celebrate the holiday, adding “(Expletive) Thanksgiving.” Afterward, he told NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin his opposition to the holiday is based in his Native American heritage.

Irving has recently re-connected with his Native American roots from his late mother’s side of the family, and he went through a Sioux naming ritual in South Dakota over the summer.

Still, Irving apologized for his profanity.

Irving also released a Nike ad on Thursday in which he played 1-on-1 with his father Drederick, who raised Kyrie and his sister alone after his mother’s passing.
